How do we become ourselves? What makes us who we are? Who am I? What stands between me and the person that I might be?

It is not always possible to feel right in the world. Sometimes “being yourself” seems like an unachievable condition. Life throws so much at us, and gives us so little time in which to react, that sometimes it is impossible to find the space in which to reflect on who we are and why.

The obstacles to that desired sense of security can be complex and intertwined. Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, fear… These difficulties occasionally need to be addressed singly but more often in compounds, and that is where psychotherapeutic counselling can be of real and lasting help, in sorting one issue from another and equipping you with the tools that may help you in the future.

We all need time to explore. We also need to know how to explore.

I have a particular interest in the creative processes, having been a writer and journalist for most of my adult life, and so I am always more than prepared to help explore the anxieties that attend all forms of creative work.

Also, those struggling with health issues will find an empathetic ear. Sometimes it is the case that we know what is troubling us and yet we cannot find a way to live with that unease. Psychotherapy helps us to find and then follow that path.

Areas I work with

I have worked with clients on a wide range of issues including:

  • Anxiety

  • Grief and Bereavement

  • Creativity

  • Depression

  • Health issues

  • Relationship issues and problems

  • Self-esteem

Psychotherapy Training & Qualifications

I am a member of the BACP qualified to Advanced Diploma standard (www.bacp.co.uk) and I abide by that institution’s Code of Ethics. I trained at CPPD in North London and qualified after three years in 2018.

CPPD teaches the Humanistic Integrative approach to counselling and I am therefore conversant with a number of therapeutic modalities: Person-Centred, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory and the Psychodynamic method. But I am not doctrinaire nor hidebound in the way I work with them.
